Lilypons: The Blond One and My Mini-Me

I'm not going to share anyone's real name because I like that they're characters with stories and not just delegated to their birth names and real life personalities.

Lilypons is my second oldest niece, a brilliance at 16 years old, she attends El Paso High and hopes to go into medicine one day. Her goal is to become an RN, then go to PA school (I cried when I first read that she wanted to do that), then put herself through medical school and open up a free-clinic. She is a corazon of a person and has so much going for her if she could just get out of that teenage boy crazy stage of life.
She was born in El Paso, Texas and lived her very early years in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Vladivostock, Russia, later years in Toluca, Mexico and her pre-teen and teen years here.
As I have mentioned before, our family has gone through some seemingly cursed life experiences and unfortunately, the kids have had some of the most painful ones. Stop reading if you can't handle the hard stuff, cause it's pretty damn hard.
Back in the day of Mexico living, my sister was going through a separation from her husband (the kids father). Saying he was a difficult person to live with is a serious understatement. I'm not going to get into the person that he was because just 4 weeks ago, he passed away, so in respect to him, I will restrain. I will tell you that he terrorized those kids and my sister for many years and in 2001, he made the ultimate threat to take my sisters life and my blond niece- Lilypons was there as a six year old human shield to my sister as her only protection. Cops were called, tempers were tempered and that same day my sister and her 4 kids packed up as much as they could into their van and drove for 24 hours straight back into El Paso, Texas.
Over the years, lots of other stuff has happened, the cursed Costa Rica incident with guns and assault and exposing Lilypons to things that she should never know. Then lastly a month ago, her dad died leaving no one to reconcile her anger with, no one to yell at, no one to forgive in order to find peace and solace once and for all.
Yet through everything and all of the trauma, she remains amazing. I call her my mini-me because we're equally clumsy and goofy and fickle and big-hearted, hypochondriacs with a knack for destroying things usually electronics (she broke the towel rack in our newly reconstructed bathroom, literally as I write this). I can predict what her actions will be because I went through them-same stories, same spiritual journey, same shyness, all of it was once mine. She has an angelic voice (which I don't have) and sings so lovely, but will only share it with her family. I'll get her one day and she'll end up a youtube sensation, I just know it. She is a poet and great writer and even her facebook postings are genius and often lyrical.
The lessons that life has tossed at this girl should only be sprinkled throughout someones lifetime, if even at all, but like a ton of bricks they've been blasted onto Lilypons and she still stands tall and strong. Lily has crazy, strong morals and convictions and works really hard to be a good person. She will be a force to be reckoned once she gets out of that shy little shell, and of course quells that craving for opposite gender attention, which I am sure is transient and totally part of being a teenage girl. :)
